History of the Villa

Villa richter

Our History

Villa Richter is a true gem of Art Nouveau resort architecture in Międzyzdroje. The elegant resort was established by Max Richter, a furniture factory owner from Szczecin. In 1907, the studio of a certain Schloss, also from Szczecin, prepared the design, local authorities issued the permits, and by 1908, right next to the coastal promenade, stood a beautiful building, ready to welcome its first guests.
Class and Style

Architecture

Architecturally, the Międzyzdroje Villa Richter is distinguished primarily by its octagonal tower in the northeast corner, topped with a bell-shaped helmet with a spire and a weather vane, on which the year of the residence's construction is inscribed. The richly decorated facade, with gilded cornices and stylish decorations dominated by floral and plant motifs, also delights passers-by. Particularly noteworthy are the two gables, on which seven-pointed stars in floral wreaths are placed.
Time of Change

Międzyzdroje

For Międzyzdroje, it was a time of intense changes – in the 13th century, there was only a princely inn on the site of today's town, and until around the 16th century, it was a small fishing village with just 8 families. The turning point came in 1832, when the growing popularity of seaside tourism transformed the modest settlement into a valued summer resort and later into a spa town. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, most of the public buildings and the most prestigious hotels and guesthouses in Międzyzdroje were built. Between 1890 and 1910, many such establishments were constructed along the seaside promenade.
Our History

Beginnings

Initially, vacationers at Villa Richter could choose between single rooms with full board options or two-room apartments with kitchens. In the mid-1930s, the property came into the hands of the Klingensberg siblings, owners of two neighboring residences. After the end of World War II, Międzyzdroje was granted town rights (which was finally confirmed in 1947), and Villa Richter was taken over by the State Treasury. From 1948, the property was managed by the Workers' Holiday Fund. Initially, it operated as the Huragan Holiday Home, later renamed D.W. Rybitwa I.
Present Times

New Owners

Since 1995, Villa Richter has been in private hands. At the initiative of the owners, the building was renovated to restore it to its former glory. In 2016, the villa was acquired by new owners, bringing further changes. The building underwent a thorough renovation, and a new comfortable apartment was created on the ground floor. Guest convenience was also enhanced by the installation of an elevator.
